Even though Punxsutawney Phil might’ve seen has shadow last month, a record warm February indicates that Spring is just around the corner – at least we hope. Spring is a time for new beginnings, and with the Carriage House Inn’s grand opening only a few weeks behind us, we already know March is going to be a month of firsts. Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve

If you like being surrounded by pretty things, then you’re in luck. The wildflower preserve is just 2.5 miles south of New Hope, and has more than two-dozen trails to explore. The preserve features 134 acres of nearly 800 species of Pennsylvania native trees, shrubs, ferns, vines and herbaceous perennial wildflowers. Admission, which is free for members, includes a guided wildflower walk and directly supports the preserve.

Washington Crossing State Park

Are you interested in American history? If so, then you might already know about George Washington’s infamous trip across the Delaware on Christmas - a major turning point in the American Revolutionary War. What you might not know is that the exact location of the crossing, so appropriately named Washington Crossing, is right in Bucks County, and less than a 20 minute drive from the Carriage House. Guests can tour the historic village, or view the annual re-enactment that takes place on Christmas Day.

Bucks County Vineyards

The Bucks County Wine Trail partners with nine local wineries, many of which are within driving distance of the Carriage House. The New Hope Winery is actually only 3 miles down the road, and hosts individual and group wine tastings as well as live music most weekends. For a tour through an authentic vineyard, Buckingham Valley Vineyards is a 15 minute drive, offering free self-guided tours, with access to picnic tables, a spacious lawn, and occasional entertainment.

Delaware Canal State Park

There is a 60-mile canal towpath that parallels the Delaware River, running from the Lehigh Valley all the way down to Bristol. Fortunately, there is a good stretch of it that goes directly through New Hope and Lambertville. There are several access points through the town, where many joggers, bicyclists, and nature lovers spend hours enjoying the scenery.

Although there is plenty to be seen in the New Hope area, one of the greatest things about the town is its rich history.
