Leaf Peeping in New Hope is a Fall Favorite

Fall is officially here in Bucks County, even though the unusually warm weather we’ve been having makes it feel like summer never left. It seems a little unnatural to go pumpkin picking in shorts, and a little contradictory to sip a pumpkin spice latte while you’re breaking a sweat. Although our favorite fall activities feel a little strange, they’re still the same pastimes we’ve been enjoying since childhood.

One of our favorite things to do during fall at the Carriage House is “leaf peeping.” Our courtyard features an amazing view of the Delaware River, which makes it the perfect place to view the magnificent landscape of colors brought on by the fall foliage. It’s easy to get lost in the mix of red and golden hues and forget that you never left your own backyard.

There are plenty of ways to enjoy the fall scenery in New Hope- here are a few of our favorites:

  • Head for a walk or bike ride along the canal. Don’t have your bike with you? No problem! You can rent one from New Hope Cyclery.

  • Grab a drink at The Landing and find a seat on their back patio. (Psst- there's a bar out there, too!)

  • Treat yourself to an afternoon of shopping along Main Street, and stop for lunch somewhere with outdoor seating, like at New Hope’s newly opened Ferry Market.

  • Hop aboard the New Hope & Ivyland Railroad’s Fall Foliage Excursion train for a two and half hour ride in their 1920s vintage passenger coach.

  • Head for a stroll through Washington Crossing Historic Park and stay for a history lesson!

  • Climb to the top of Bowman’s Hill Tower for breathtaking views of the countryside, and tour the preserve on a guided wildflower walk.

There are multiple festivals right here in town throughout the season, like the Apple Festival at Peddler’s Village November 4 and 5. And don’t forget about Halloween! All of October is a scary good time in New Hope, with ghost tours, haunted train rides, and our very own High Heel Drag Race. Visit www.visitnewhope.com for all events happening this month.

See an excursion you’re interested in but time have time to book it yourself? Our Innkeeper Michele can help you with that! After making your reservation, just call us at (609) 651-1686 with your request and we should be able to book it for you.
